Beach Beat Surf Shop

For more than four decades, Beach Beat Surf Shop has been part of the fabric of Caloundra.

Its closure marks the end of an era—not just for a retail business, but for a piece of the surf culture that helped shape the identity of our community.

Long before the Sunshine Coast became one of Australia’s most recognised coastal destinations, Caloundra was building a reputation as a grassroots surfing town. Local surfers, board shapers and entrepreneurs helped create a culture that was authentic, welcoming and uniquely our own.

Brands such as Free Flight Surfboards and businesses like Beach Beat became more than places to buy equipment. They became meeting points, gathering places and institutions within the local surf community. They reflected the lifestyle, values and spirit that attracted generations of people to live, work and raise families here.

For over 40 years, Beach Beat served locals and visitors alike. Through changing trends, economic cycles and evolving consumer habits, it remained a constant presence in Caloundra.

The closure of any long-standing local business is sad. The closure of an iconic business that has helped define part of our community identity is particularly significant.

On behalf of the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce, we acknowledge and thank the owners, staff and supporters of Beach Beat for their contribution to our community over many decades.

Their story is a reminder that behind every small business is a family, a dream, countless sacrifices and years of commitment.

As Caloundra continues to evolve, it is important that we celebrate the businesses and people who helped build the town we know today.

Beach Beat’s contribution to Caloundra’s history and surf culture will not be forgotten.
