A great day turning the soil on the future Aura Hotel

A note from Michael Shadforth, President Caloundra Chamber of Commerce

A great day turning the soil on the future Aura Hotel with the Comiskey family yesterday – a milestone moment for Caloundra and the Sunshine Coast. This is a project the community has long been ready for.

Aura’s growing population, particularly younger families and professionals, has been calling for a genuine hospitality destination: somewhere to connect, gather, and build culture. This hotel will help anchor that vision. What makes it even more exciting is who is delivering it. The Comiskey family have a proven track record in hospitality, creating venues that genuinely enrich the communities they serve. Seeing a local family reinvest in the Sunshine Coast with this level of confidence and energy is something we should all recognise.

It was great to be there alongside Mayor Rosanna Natoli, Kendall Morton MP, Rob, David and Paul of the Comiskey Group, and Josh Sondergeld from Stockland – a strong group aligned around what Aura is becoming. The Aura Town Centre is coming to life.

By 2027, we’ll see a real transformation, not just in Aura, but in how the Sunshine Coast functions.

The centre of gravity is shifting south, where population growth, infrastructure, and enterprise are accelerating. Caloundra is right at the heart of that shift, emerging as a key economic driver for the region.

Exciting times ahead, and congratulations to the Comiskey family on what will be a landmark project.
