A community update from Sunshine Coast Council: As part of a major transport infrastructure investment into the future of Caloundra’s lifestyle and economic development needs, a new transport corridor is being delivered.

The final design for the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade (CTCU) has been confirmed.

The road upgrade and new extension is being delivered between Omrah Avenue and Nicklin Way. The 1.6 kilometre corridor has been planned since the early 2000’s and will improve connectivity and travel choice into Caloundra.

This major transport infrastructure investment is the next step in meeting the current and future needs of motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and public transport users in Caloundra.

The project is jointly funded by the Queensland Government through the Department of Transport and Main Roads, the Cycle Network Local Government Grants program, and Sunshine Coast Council. 

Community Update
Sunshine Coast Council, in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), is pleased to provide an update on the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade (CTCU) project.

The CTCU will connect Caloundra’s business centre and Omrah Avenue to Nicklin Way via a 1.6 kilometre-long active transport and road corridor. This significant infrastructure initiative aims to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion and support the future growth of Caloundra.

Project update
The CTCU remains endorsed and fully funded. The project’s design reflects community input and balances infrastructure development needs with environmental preservation, liveability and sustainability.

Council and TMR are currently working closely with the Australian Government through the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act process. The EPBC process plays a critical role in protecting threatened species, habitats, and places of environmental significance within our community.

This important and ongoing work has resulted in changes to the timing of the major construction tender release. However, we are pleased to advise that this tender process is underway. The CTCU Project Team remains committed to aligning EPBC requirements with procurement processes to ensure the best outcomes for our community. We look forward to providing a further update on the appointment of a major contractor later this year.

Project timeline
Subject to the finalisation of the EPBC process and the appointment of the major construction contractor, construction of the CTCU is anticipated to start in mid-2026 and be completed in early 2028, weather and site conditions permitting. Council and TMR are committed to working closely with contractors to ensure the community and local businesses are kept well informed about construction plans, staging and timing.
